Alexa Ray Joel was the subject of plastic surgery rumors last month when she emerged looking very different than she used to. Alexa had a nose job in 2010 and she admits to that, but she denied having any other work done at all. It’s possible she has an excellent makeup artist and that she looks different due to weight loss, or it’s possible that she has had injections and non-surgical procedures and that she’s fudging the truth.

Alexa was on Good Morning America earlier this week, where she repeated her claims that she has only had a nose job. That may be the case, it’s hard to tell. The 28 year-old daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley is promoting her music career. She’s been singing live at the Carlyle Hotel in New York. They showed clips of Alexa performing and she really does have pipes. When she spoke, I was surprised at how young her voice sounds, to put it nicely. She has somewhat of a baby voice. Alexa also talked about when she fainted on stage about a month ago. She simply called it “par for the course” and said that she was “tired.”

On fainting on stage
I think it’s par for the course. I had been working a few weeks straight and I was tired and it just happened, you know. It was just a case of sheer exhaustion.

On the plastic surgery rumors
It was interesting because they were comparing pictures of me from when I was between 16 to 18 to recent pictures of me now when I’m 28 years old. So of course I look different, but I can tell you right now that the only thing that is true, which I have been open about, is that I did have rhinoplasty surgery but no I haven’t had anything else done. I don’t even dye my hair.

On how it was growing up with famous parents
It was [tough]. I was a very sensitive, painfully shy young woman and I probably wasn’t ready for the limelight and I think it did hit me pretty hard but I’m really grateful for it. I think anything that you go through in your life where there’s obstacles, you learn to overcome them and it just builds character. And it also makes for really good songs.

I would have liked it if she didn’t frame her childhood as so hard when she had incredible wealth and advantages growing up. It would have been nice for her to pay lip service to the fact that her struggles came from a place of privilege.

As far as the plastic surgery issue, I want to believe that she’s telling the truth because if she admitted to a nose job why would she fib about getting more done? She still looks way different to me, and it doesn’t look like just makeup and weight loss. But maybe her makeup is simply spectacular now. I want to figure out how to contour like that.
