Last year, actress Michaela Coel devastated fans when she announced that she didn’t plan on writing a third season of Netflix’s hit original series, Chewing Gum. But after some time to think about it, it looks like the star changed her mind. In a new interview with the London Times, Coel stated that she will in fact, write another season of the show.
While Coel may be ready to get back in the writer’s seat, she confirmed that she will be enlisting a squad of co-writers “because I don’t want to die,” she told the Times.
“My sets are not peaceful. It’s a beautiful catastrophe,” she added about her creative process. “I am running around like a headless chicken. I don’t sleep because I am writing. It’s manic. I love it, I don’t know if I would want it any other way, but I’ve learnt from working with proper people like Charlie [Brooker, Black Mirror]; they really prepare in advance.”
There isn’t a current production and broadcast timeline for Chewing Gum’s season 3. In the meantime, Coel has been keeping busy with a number of projects. The actress recently starred in an episode of the newest season of Black Mirror, and is reportedly working on the major London-based musical, Been So Long, for Netflix.
Stay tuned as more details come about.
